Appeal Information for Year 7 Admissions September 2024

If your child is due to start secondary school in September 2024, you can appeal if you are refused a place at one of your preferred schools on National Offer Day (Friday 1 March 2024).

You must submit your appeal before Thursday 28 March 2024 for it to be considered by Monday 17 June 2024. Any appeals received after this time will be heard within 40 school days from the deadline, or where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.

For late applications, appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.

If you have not been successful in gaining a place at Maidstone Grammar School for September 2024 and you named Maidstone Grammar School on your SCAF you can appeal between the dates listed above.

Click here to complete the MGS Secondary School Appeal Form (before completing, please refer to the school’s generic Defence Statement and FAQs via the links below).

Once you have completed the form you can submit further evidence to support your appeal. Please send to Denise Friend preferably via email: dfriend@mgs.kent.sch.uk or by post to the school address. If you post documents to the school, please do not send any binders, folders or use paperclips etc as all documentation will be scanned and passed on electronically to KCC’s Appeals Team.

If you intend lodging an appeal, you should still send the acceptance form back to the school that you were offered.  If your appeal is upheld and you are offered a place at MGS, you can then withdraw your acceptance from the initial school accepted.  However, if your appeal is not upheld your child will still have a place at a school in September.

Year 7 Application for Admission

Maidstone Grammar School complies with the Co-ordinated Admission Scheme, which is administered by Kent Local Authority.  Boys are admitted at age 11. All students must have gained a selective place through the Kent PESE (Procedure for Entry into Secondary Education).  Details of the Kent PESE are available from the Kent County Council Booklet ‘Admission to Secondary School in Kent’. There is no guarantee of a place to applicants who meet the over-subscription criteria.

Our Published Admission Number is 205. Before the over-subscription criteria is applied, children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (ECHP), which names the school, will be admitted.  As a result of this the Published Admission Number will be reduced accordingly.

In the event the school is oversubscribed places will be allocated using our oversubscription criteria which can be found in our Admission Arrangements via the link below.

Supplementary Information Form (SIF)

MGS has a Supplementary Information Form specifically for children in receipt of free school meals at the time of application. If your child was in receipt of free school meals at the time of application this form should have been submitted by the application deadline.
