Clubs, Societies & Activities

Our co-curricular and enrichment programme is an essential part of the MGS experience and plays a key role in the personal development of our pupils, helping them to become well-rounded individuals.

Our wide range of clubs, societies and activities extends pupils’ knowledge, skills and experiences across all year groups. Participation supports personal development and provides opportunities for pupils to engage in a variety of stimulating physical, artistic, cultural and recreational pursuits.

Through our co-curricular and enrichment programme, pupils of all ages can take responsibility, work as part of a team, face new challenges and develop new skills.

Many pupils participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, with many achieving Bronze and Silver Awards and some progressing to Gold.

Our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is open to all pupils from Year 9 onwards. The school has one of the oldest CCF units in the country, with Army, Navy and RAF sections, and has earned a reputation for success in national and local competitions.

We also have a strong reputation for excellence in sport, catering for both performance athletes and enthusiastic participants. Our specialist PE teachers lead teams across a wide range of sports, supported by external coaches who help pupils achieve excellent results.

Our House system sits at the heart of the enrichment programme. A full programme of inter-house competitions takes place throughout the year, encouraging participation across all ages and levels of experience.

Our clubs, societies and activities are organised under four themes:

  • Create: Activities that involve creative thinking and allow pupils to explore and develop ideas, leading to an original or interpretative product or performance.
  • Active: Physical activities that promote participation, wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Serve: Activities that provide opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to the school and wider community.
  • Enrich: Activities that make classroom learning more meaningful and extend, enrich and consolidate pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills, including engagement with the Super Curriculum.
