Working with Employers

Gatsby Benchmark 5 (Encounters with employers and employees) states:

Every student should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This can be through a range of enrichment activities including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes, and should include students’ own part time employment where it exists.

At Maidstone Grammar School, we offer a varied range of employer encounters to students, from Year 7-13, which are integrated into the school careers programme, progressive through the age range and tailored to individual need. These include the following in-person events:

  • Work Experience/Work Shadowing
  • Business Challenge Activities and Enterprise Competition
  • Careers and Apprenticeship Fairs
  • Employer Mentoring, through our Old Maidstonian Alumni network
  • Visits to employers
  • Employer talks in school
  • Employer involvement in the Curriculum

Students are also encouraged to take advantage of the many virtual opportunities available, such as those offered by Springpod.

Our Provider Access Policy gives further details about the events/activities offered to each year group and outlines the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to the school.
